College is Real’s goal is to have as many college-potential students as possible at Richmond High, particularly amongst the Latino student population, aspire to, apply to, and attend a four-year university.

At Richmond High, the college application rate amongst Latino students has been low and the college attendance rate has been extremely low relative to the State average.

CIR wants to provide a program based upon quality and not quantity in order the help maximize the success of its members and provide a high level of attention and services to the most committed and ambitious students. CIR has determined that a manageable number of members is 55-60 per year with a relatively equal distribution over each class.

Over time, CIR may elect to offer its program to other high schools in the Bay Area starting with nearby high schools in order to maximize management efficiencies. CIR’s program is transportable to other schools, particularly those with a large Latino student body.

CIR believes it has achieved outstanding results as follows and has raised its goals given its success since inception.

  Goal Result
Program Avg. GPA 3.0 or Higher Achieved 3.1-3.3 in all years
Members with at least 3.00 g.p.a. 50% Achieved 70% or higher
Seniors applying to four-year college 50% Achieved 75-80% depending upon the year
CIR seniors gaining admission to four-year colleges 50% of all applicants Achieved 80-100% depending upon the year
CIR graduates attending four-year and two-year colleges 50% Achieved 87-100% depending upon the year
